Soap-Making Tips

  1. Choosing the Right Oils and Butters: Select oils and butters based on the properties you want in your soap. For moisturizing bars, consider ingredients like shea butter or avocado oil. For a harder bar, use coconut oil or cocoa butter. Experimenting with different combinations will help you find the perfect formula for your needs.
  2. Temperature Control During Mixing: Maintain consistent temperatures when mixing lye and oils to ensure a successful soap batch. Aim for around 100-110°F (38-43°C) for both mixtures before combining. This helps achieve a smooth emulsion and prevents separation.
  3. Adding Fragrances and Colorants: When adding essential oils or fragrance oils, calculate based on the total weight of oils to avoid overpowering scents. For colorants, use natural additives like clays or botanical powders for subtle hues. Mix well and test in small batches to achieve the desired color and scent intensity.
